Bruisers announce league split from AZRD
by azdr - January 18, 2008 - 4:01pm
Arizona Bruisers LLC has issued a press release today to announce that they have officially split from Arizona Roller Derby and are now independent. The new Arizona Bruisers is being positioned as a national-level travel team.
The Bruisers was AZRD's first team and one of the first in the nation since the resurgence of the sport.
The team has stated that they have been scheduling monthly events as well as several "high profile" events" with various derby leagues across the country.
The newly independent Bruisers will have a scrimmage against the Copper Queens of Tucson Roller Derby at 4PM on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Later that evening, AZRD will have a bout between the Brawlarinas and Surly Gurlies at 7:30PM. This is a make-up for their rained-out January 5th date.
This is not the first league split for AZRD. The original league split saw the separation of the Furious Truckstop Waitresses and the creation of Tucson Roller Derby. Then in 2005, Suzy Homewrecker and three other skaters separated from AZRD to form Arizona Derby Dames. In addition, AZRD's French Kiss Army split to form Renegade Rollergirls.
