On a cold but not as nippy night as the January bout, Arizona Roller Derby has played what some consider as a historic game as we saw the return of Trish The Dish and Ivanna S. Pankin who was the original Bruiser captain. They will take on the strongest team in the league, The Bad News Beaters.
The roster of the 2007 Bruisers recently split off from AZRD. Therefore, AZRD needed to compose a new team. Skaters were selected at random from the Brawlarinas and Surly Gurlies to play on this interim Bruisers team.

This bout was a very interesting one due to the close marigins (never getting any higher than 7 points in each direction). In addition, this bout had 8 lead changes and 3 jams that put the score in a tie.

JAM 1: Knockout Knicko (Beaters) v Ivanna S. Pankin (Bruisers) in the first jam for the new AZRD Bruisers team. Both jammers break but no one made lead jammer so the jam went for a full two minutes. Ivanna had a lot of resistance but was able to break through the pack for 4 before time was called but Knicko answered those points and we are tied 4-4.
JAM 2: Deez Nutz vs. Shirley Demise. Both jammers do an excellent job in lapping the pack. We saw the excellent blocking skills of Trish the Dish but Nutz was still able to get 9 while Shirley picked up 8. 13-12 Beaters.
JAM 3: Babe Ruthless vs. C-Duktive. Jam was called early due to a Bruiser skater getting caught up in the track rope. Neither jammer broke and it's still 13-12 Beaters.
JAM 4: Babe Ruthless vs. Goldie Fingered. Babe gets lead and picks up 4. Goldie makes an acrobatic move to break but Babe calls at the right time. 17-12 Beaters.
JAM 5: Rayna Rage vs. Ivanna S. Pankin. Both skaters break, Ivanna picks up the lead. Rayna picks up 4. Ivanna then picks up 4 and then immediately calls the jam. 21-16 Beaters.
JAM 6: Knockout Knicko vs. Shirley Demise. Shirley easily breaks on the inside, gets 2, gets hit, lands in the Turn 3 seats and call off the jam. 21-18 Beaters.
JAM 7: Deez Nutz vs. C Duktive. Both skaters break but dod not get lead jam. Loca Lina and Messy Missy get sent to the box giving the Bruisers the advantage they need. C-Duk takes advantage of the situation and laps Nutz for a grand slam. Nutz picks up 5 and C-Duk 8. We are now tied at 26.
JAM 8: Babe Ruthless vs. Hacker Too Pieces. Babe gets the lead jam and then Trish the Dish gives her a nice hip check that sends her to the Bruiser bench. Babe does pick up 2 along the way. 28-26 Beaters.
JAM 9: Deez Nutz vs. Gratutious Violet. Violet breaks but Nutz gets the lead jam. After breaking, Nutz immediately calls off the jam. Still 28-26 Beaters.
JAM 10: Knockout Knicko vs. Shirley Demise. Both skaters break neither gets lead. For some reason the jam was called early. We could not determine based on our recording why the jam was called early.
Time-out is called and ref Fran Arky is dancing in the infield shaking her tassels.
JAM 11: Deez Nutz vs. Gratutious Violet. Violet gets worked on very hard by Rayna and Paige Burner. Rayna gets sent to the box. Violet eventually breaks but it was way too late into the jam to do anything.
JAM 12: Babe Ruthless vs. Shirley Demise. There was a lot of jammer on jammer action but the jam gets cut short by the game clock however Shirley does some damage.. Period ends with the Bruisers taking the lead 30-28.
Fans are entertained by the band Nexus while Holly Would and Fred Nutz work out their strategies for the next period.
PERIOD 2
JAM 13: Knockout Knicko vs. Shirley Demise. Knicko makes a nice break. Shirley breaks and calls as Knicko was starting to collect points. 30-29 Bruisers.
JAM 14: Loca Lena vs. C-Duktive. A colission that involves Loca Lena (BEA), Hacker Too Pieces (BRU) and Destructo Kitty (BRU) resulted in Kitty getting hurt and limping off the track on her own power. 33-32 Bruisers.
JAM 15: Babe Ruthless vs. Gratutious Violet. Babe picks up lead jam, comes back around for 4 and calls it off. 36-33 Beaters back out in front.
JAM 16: Rayna Rage vs. Trish The Dish. Dish makes a nice break on the inside for the lead jam. Rayna breaks and picks up 4 but Dish does more and brings the margin closer again. 40-38 Beaters.
JAM 17: Knockout Knicko vs. C-Duktive. Knicko picks up lead. Later in the jam she would go down in Turn 1 and calls off the jam. 42-38 Beaters.
JAM 18: Deez Nutz vs. Gratutious Violet. Violet was on fire picking up the lead jam and showing some really good speed on the straighaways and calls the jam in less than a minute. Still 42-38 Beaters.
JAM 19: Drop Kick Maddie vs. Shirley Demise. No lead jammer. Babe and Hacker and eventually Maddie gets sent to the box. An entire two minutes for the jammers to collect points but the Bruisers get the lead back, 47-44.
JAM 20: C-Duktive solo jamming. C-Duk breaks but does not pick up lead jam. She eventually gets knocked into turn 2 and into the laps of the Derby Dames. Rayna Rage enters the jam from the box. 51-44 Bruisers.
JAM 21: Deez Nutz vs. Gratutious Violet. No lead jammer but Nutz does get the grand slam. Goldie gets sent to the box. 54-51 Bruisers.
JAM 22: Knockout Knicko vs. Shirley Demise. Shirley picks up lead jam and then when threatened by Knicko entering the pack, she calls it off. 55-51 Bruisers.
JAM 23: Deez Nutz. vs. C-Duktive. Nutz picks up the lead. Trish came in very close to Pauly (actually, we have seen this happen a couple of times so far) and Nutz calls it off. 55-53 Bruisers.
JAM 24: Babe Ruthless vs. Gratutious Violet. Babe picks up the lead jam, Shirley Demise gets sent to the box, Babe gets the pack and calls it off. No time to assemble another jam so at the end of the period, the Beaters get their lead back 57-55.
During the intermission after another set by Nexus, Babe Ruthless spins the penalty wheel and lands on "pillow fight". Pauly blows the whistle and both Babe and Ivanna S. Paknin lay down and take a nap at the jammer line. Dissatisfied by this outcome skaters from both benches congregate on the restful pair and create a very interesting dogpile.
Ivanna gets the "no rules match race" and very easily wins the race over Babe Ruthless.
PERIOD 3
JAM 25: Knockout Knicko vs. Hacker Too Pieces. Both break and Knicko gets the lead, she gets what she wants and then calls it off. 61-55 Beaters.
JAM 26: Deez Nutz vs. Dianasaurus Wrexx. Nice inside break for Dianasaurus on her first jam of the night. She picks up lead jam, picks up 4 and calls it.
JAM 27: Babe Ruthless vs. Gratutious Violet. Violet picks up the lead jam while Ivanna makes a little slip in turn 4. Messy Missy and Psycho Sybil find themselves slipping in the same place. Bruisers tie it up at 62.
JAM 28: Rayna Rage vs. Hacker Too Pieces. No lead jammer but Hacker eventually picks up 4 points. 66-62 Bruisers.
JAM 29: Knockout Knicko vs. Shirley Demise. Shirley picks up lead jam, picks up two and eventually calls it off. 68-62 Bruisers.
JAM 30: Deez Nutz vs. C-Duktive. Skaters seem to be spilling everywhere. There is no lead jam. Messy Missy gives C-Duk a nice push in turn 3 to the delight of the fans and C-Duk eventually goes to the box giving Nutz a solo jam. 76-72 Bruisers.
JAM 31: Babe Ruthless vs. C-Duktive. Beaters get the lead jam while Trish goes to the box. C-Duk gets called and Babe is solo for the end of the jam. Jam called for time. Lead change, 77-76 Beaters.
JAM 32: Knockout Knicko jams solo for the Beaters. She eventually gets lead jam. Trish giving her a lot of resistance. C-Duktive eventually re-enters the jam after serving her time. 84-78 Beaters.
JAM 33: Babe Ruthless vs. Shirley Demise. Diannasaurus Wrexx gives Babe a good hit at the jammer line. Shirley takes a nice belt whip off of C-Duk and finds herself caught in traffic. She breaks without obtaining lead jam status. Babe also breaks but still no lead jammer. This jam will go for the whole 2 minutes. Both teams pick up 4 to end the bout.
The Bad News Beaters defeat the AZRD Bruisers with a final score of 88-82.
