April's Arizona Derby Doings
April is one of the quietest months for derby here in Arizona. However, there are some things that are going on.

(A Michi-chan opinionated bitch)
Yesterday on Michichan.com and leadjammer.com, we had released a story stating that the Arizona Roller Derby (AZRD) Tent City Terrors would bout the Arizona Derby Dames (AZDD) Lady Lux in August. While this story did get some responses from people believing that it would actually happen, it was an April Fools prank.
But what if it wasn't?
Editor's Note: This was an April Fools prank.
In light of the recent news that Arizona Roller Derby (AZRD) will be sharing the Castle Sports Club with Arizona Derby Dames (AZDD), both leagues will be making a joint announcement later today, April 1, 2008 that a very long awaited exhibition bout between AZRD's Tent City Terrors and the AZDD's Lady Lux will take place on August 23, the date that is currently set as the AZDD Lady Lux demo bout.
Two Phoenix area leagues were bouting last night. Over on the west-side, Arizona Derby Dames had a doubleheader which featured the Runaway Brides in their debut bout take on the Bombshells and the School Yard Scrappers, coming off of a huge (and their first) win to take on the Coffin Draggers. On the east-side, Arizona Roller Derby had the Bruisers (sans Ivanna & Trish) take on the 0-2 Surly Gurlies...
Last Sunday, I was invited to come down to an old warehouse in Downtown Phoenix to watch the Renegade Rollergirls put on a bout at their new practice location. This bout, being put on for a by-invitation-only audience, was also being recorded by a major sports network for a documentary on alternative sports. Renegades came in from all of their sister leagues including Orange County, San Diego and Bend, OR.
HEY ARIZONA DERBY FANS!!!!!
We have been doing pretty good this year with the predictions. Let's do some for the rest of this month in Arizona derby!!
TONIGHT - TUCSON ROLLER DERBY
IRON CURTAIN VS. VICE SQUAD - 2 pretty equal teams but I was very impressed with the IC at the last bout and I think they will have a slight edge. IRON CURTAIN BY LESS THAN 10 in a medium scoring (50-80) game.
It was an interesting night at the Castle Sports Club as the Arizona Derby Dames open up their 2008 season with a non-regulation event which consists of 4 "mini-bouts". These 4 mini-bouts are 10-minutes long and consist of 1-minute jams. Unlike other local leagues, AZDD does stop their clock between each jam, which allows them to use the full 10 minutes for game-play.
According to information received from multiple sources and then confirmed today by a MySpace bulletin, Arizona Derby Dames (AZDD) founder and Coffin Draggers team captain Suzy Homewrecker has announced that she will no longer actively skate for the league after the January 26 demo bout.
Suzy cites that her current work schedule does not permit her to continue skating for the league. Suzy has also obtained some art space in Downtown Phoenix where she will work on her Homewrecker creative work.
The Arizona Derby Report (AZDR) has been informed this evening that the Arizona Derby Dames (AZDD) has denied our request for an agreement to provide the same level of coverage that we provide to every other league in Arizona.
While we know there were some who were in the league who supported our request, we are very disappointed at their decision. We will continue to provide limited information about the league in our reports, websites and blogs but unfortuantely we will not be able to provide the "Featured Bout" experience like you have been seeing for other leagues on the AZDR.
