GOODBYE CHUCK
The AZDR has confirmed from numerous sources that AZDD School Yard Scrapper CHUCK BERRINGS has been asked to leave the league. This is based on incidents that took place at the AZDD 3/29 bout against the Coffin Draggers. Chuck was suspended last year after the August demo bout against Team Excalibur due to an incident that involved injury to one of the Lady Lux skaters. At that time, Chuck was playing on the Excalibur team as a fill-in skater. Chuck has been known for her crazy penalty box antics and driving the fans to chant "Chuck! Chuck! Chuck!". I will personally miss some of Chuck's antics out there but unfortunately, she dug herself into this situation by going a few steps beyond to a point where some did not feel safe skating with her. Could Chuck resurface as a Renegade? I hope she can receive what she dishes out. With the skates and pads off, I wish Chuck a good future.
AND SPEAKING OF RENEGADES
I have had a chance to speak this week with the Phoenix Renegades and I am being told that there will be a bout where the public will be invited sometime in May and that a season schedule is being worked on. The bout will be held at a Downtown Phoenix location. This is not the same location where they practice, I am being told this location will actually have A/C. I do not have any exact dates yet, but they are planning their bouts on either Friday nights or Sunday afternoons. I had been told that one reason for this was to not conflict with the schedules with other leagues. Now if we can get AZRD and AZDD to agree to not overlap their schedules. Renegades told me about a future tryouts. So if you think you have what it takes to be a Renegade, stay tuned.
PHOENIX PRIDE 2008
Are you getting ready for this weekend? Arizona Derby Dames will have a float in this year's Pride parade. Friend of derby Fetish Falls will have a booth inside Pride. In addition, a major derby side-party will be held at the residence of AZDD skaters CELESTE and GINGER MORTIS. This party will feature several bands including AZDD favorite THE LIMIT CLUB. For more information, look for information on my MySpace page. Also, the Dames will have a fundraiser this Friday night at the Sunset Bowl (12th St & Dunlap). Bowl with a Dame and help them out!
AZDD IN THE NEW TIMES
Check out the new edition of the NEW TIMES that is coming out today. AZDD is on the cover and there's three articles in there including a very one-sided article about an AZDD fan. The article fails to mention that there are many die-hard fans with their own stories. The article should have gone deeper. Maybe they will get it right next time.
